Dodd leads in debate tech

Dodd has the most high tech debate application, his own debate show, (but there were only 56 viewers at the start and Dodd's sound level was too low),  "Talk Clock" that will track the time each candidate gets, and an embed of his show for bloggers that doesn't work here and made me redo this story!.

But new apps are always a little tricky in the beginning and my favorite thing of all was having my own question about Dodd's debate preparation answered! Read about that and more below the fold . . .

He solicited questions at different blogs and had someone ask the questions. Though billed as a two way conversation, the questions chosen were softballs, like what do you feel about restoring habeus corpus. He said he hoped Iraq was a major topic when asked about what he hopes will be discussed at the debate. He says we need "a policy that is as courageous as the soldiers." Says education and global warming were undercovered at the first debate. He said candidates need to take "tough" positions on the energy and warming issues as Dodd does by advocating a carbon tax.

At the http://www.dailykos.com/sto ry/2007/6/3/134921/7623 announcing the new tech and soliciting questions, I asked my question:

What kind of practice for the debate? (2+ / 0-)

Do you do drills of any kind?

Hvae [sic] you discussed a strategy for use of the opportunity to ask opponents questions?

He answered my drills questions, saying that he has done practice questions but it takes two or three minutes to answer each one. The "toughest thing" is to get it into the one minute he will be allowed in the debate. He said he needs to "get tighter" on the answers. He jokes that the in-depth answers are being provided here and now. He was not asked the second half of my question about whether he has strategies for asking questions of the opponents.

If anyone thinks competitive debate training has no applicability to this forum, they do not understand how debaters learn to say a lot in a little time. Word economy.
